Why you’ll love this recipe
- Creamy, tangy flavor – whipped cottage cheese has a perfect balance of creamy and tangy, with a slight sweetness that brings those ranch flavors to life
- Healthy, high protein, low carb – this is one of the easiest low-carb keto dip recipes, with only 2g carbs and 5g of protein per serving. It’s a protein-packed, balanced snack when paired with your favorite veggies, fruit or low-carb crackers.
- Easy to make – simple ingredients and seasonings come together in about five minutes
- Special diet friendly – this recipe is keto-friendly, low-FODMAP friendly if you use lactose-free dairy and can be made low-fat using a low-fat cottage cheese.

Ingredients
For complete measurements and instructions, see the recipe card, below.
- Cottage cheese – use large or small curd and any percentage of milk fat you’d like. For a low-FODMAP dip, use a lactose-free variety. I like to use small curd, full fat because it creates a light, fluffy texture and maximum creaminess.
- Sour cream – makes the dip extra creamy and slightly tangy. I like to use full-fat, but low-fat sour cream can also be used. If making a low-FODMAP dip, use lactose-free.
- Milk or cream – helps to thin out the dip. You can use lactose-free or your favorite plant milk for low-FODMAP.
- Herbs and spices or ranch seasoning powder – this can be made with spices you probably have in your pantry. Chives, dill, parsley, garlic and onion powders, and salt and pepper make a perfect homemade ranch seasoning. However, if you’ve made your own Homemade Ranch Seasoning powder, you can use that instead. Simply replace the single herbs and spices with 3 tablespoons of pre-mixed ranch powder.
- Lemon juice (optional) – just a squeeze can add brightness and extra tang. Keep in mind that adding too much can cause the dairy to stay curdled and the dip won’t be as silky smooth.
Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender.

Process until smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds.
Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

How to serve
This high protein cheese dip is very versatile and pairs well with many savory and snack foods. It also is a great addition to any party platter.
- Veggies and crackers – the thick, creamy texture is perfect to coat vegetables like carrots, celery, bell peppers and endives, which make perfect dippers
- Meatballs or party wings – this is a perfect game day party dip! It’s great with cocktail shrimp!
- Topping or mix-in – add to wraps, sandwiches or even baked potatoes
- Fruit dip – it tastes great with strawberries, apples or grapes
How to store
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Variations
- Low-fat dip – if you want to decrease the fat content, use low-fat cheese and low-fat sour cream
- Cottage cheese ranch dressing – making a high protein salad dressing is as simple as adding a touch more milk to your dip to make it a thinner consistency. I like to add buttermilk in place of regular milk, but either yield great results.
- Spicy buffalo dip – add a teaspoon (or more!) of Buffalo Seasoning to kick it up a notch!
- Sweet fruit dip – mix in a touch of your favorite sweetener, or add some sugar-free hot honey to make a hot honey ranch - perfect for dipping any fruit. Crème Fraiche Dip or Whipped Ricotta are also excellent creamy, savory, sweet fruit dips.
